Methodology

Learning in Action uses an experiential learning approach which enables people to learn by doing, and also to reflect, examine and assess what they have done.   This usually leads to new  or improved understanding, which in turn guides future actions.  Typically, we introduce a topic, involve participants in an experiential activity related to the topic, review the learning and help people to develop the applications to their own situation.

The learning environment that we create is both stimulating and challenging, whilst also being supportive.

To maximise learning we recommend that each participant has the opportunity to lead an activity.  As part of the debrief of the activity, the leader will be asked to review his/her own performance and to seek feedback from the group and  Learning in Action facilitator(s)...(a session on giving and receiving feedback is covered early in the course to ensure that participants are skilled in both communicating feedback.) This provides the opportunity for focused personal feedback and coaching.

The Core course involves the use of video and/or DVD presentations, simulations and behavioral demonstrations.  Each participant will receive:

  • a Participant Guide
  • Personal leadership style feedback
  • Diagnostic skill builders
  • Leader action plan
